Granja Porcon

This is a vacuña. they are an endangered speicies after lots of hunting for their meat and especially fur.

This entry is long over due. In October we took a trip with the Pacha family to Porcon. It a little cooperative town way up (more) in the mountains, down lots of muddy deserted roads. What we found there was basically...a zoo. and a very sand one at that. Animals in tiny cages fed by bread, cookies, or whatever else the tourist threw at them, along with there meals of raw meat. There were lots and lots of birds, most id never seen, nad half that looked as if they´d come out of the 80´s punk rock era. Also in porcon is where we saw our first and only llamas so far here. and i even kissed one, he liked me, they spit you know, but not on me. the camposina woman you see above in dressed in a more traditional outfit with the big hats they wear here.

One of my personal favorite were the performing bears. I actually have a video of these bears standing and walking and catching bread in their mouths, thrown by the people visiting the zoo. it was quite a show. And lets not forget about those long neck birds who acted so hungry they´d bite your hand off if you got close enough...

Below is a small collection of what we saw that day. a monkey eating a cookie, a penguin...not really but it looks like one, there´s the rabbit/squirrel animal big and fat with a long tail. another animal we had not seen was as curious of as as we were him, the had tails like a raccoon. then theres the punkrock bird i mentioned, and another monkey, carry its baby.

there was a bit more than just animals, but they truly were the main attraction, not many of the people who live in porcon were out and about that day, so we enjoyed the animals.
